We use this pot for a baked brie recipe we make as a staple appetizer for get-togethers. We loved this product so much, we bought them for our parents and included the recipe as a gift. Copco Smart Gadget Nylon Cooking Spoon Review

Most typical cooking spoons are either way too long or are flimsy or aren’t balanced properly — or all the above. I’d had a favorite one, a Henckels 12″ nylon spoon that was perfectly balanced and solid enough to stir or serve heavier foods…but after a couple years of near-daily use, it snapped at the handle joint. When I went back online to search for another one exactly like it, there was none to be found. Bummer!

So I ordered 3 different spoons from Amazon, the only shorter, non-metal ones I could find. This was one of them, and although I like all 3 quite a lot, this is the favorite. Just the right length to, say, comfortably stir a risotto non-stop for 20 minutes, and it seems to be designed in a way that will help its longevity: There’s no handle joint, it looks like all one solid piece. It’s comfortable to hold, the spoon is deep enough to dish up food (but not so deep to hinder fat separation or other activities where a deep bowl would get in the way), and it even has a little built-in “spoon rest” on it so that it can be laid on the counter without the spoon touching the counter.

I did like the other 2 spoons I ordered, as well, but for all-around use, this one is my new go-to tool. The other two were the Farberware Pro Nylon Basting Spoon, Red(also a great length & balance, but the bowl is quite deep) and the Elevate Spoon by Joseph Joseph (excellent length & balance, very effective “spoon rest” feature, and a versatile shape that can be used as kind of a spatula/spoon, like when turning sliced potatoes during cooking in a pan, but not so usable as a serving spoon because of the shallow bowl).

Mario Batali The Italian Kitchen Silicone Pastry Mat Review

Over a year ago I bought this mat and I absolutely love it! There are some things that you buy and you end up using them over and over again causing the cost per use to be minuscule in the end. For me, this is one of those items. It provides a great (mostly) non-stick surface for all of your pastry and bread baking needs.

We bake all of our own bread and we love to eat sandwiches so we make about two loaves of bread every three days. My wife and I pull out this pastry mat every time we bake. It still looks as good as the day we bought it and works just as well too. We use it to make cinnamon rolls, pie crusts, you name it. It is the perfect size for cinnamon rolls. You simply roll out the dough to the same size of the mat and then you get 12 perfectly sized cinnamon rolls that are the same size as those sold at the retailer in your local mall.

It does arrive folded in half inside the shipping box. As a result there was a crease in the baking mat for the first 2 weeks. However, that crease has long since disappeared. The only reason I remembered the crease was because I read some of the reviews below. Don’t worry it will soon disappear.

For storage we roll up our rolling pin in the mat so it takes almost no space at all. I have never cooked on it so can not speak to it’s cooking properties. I have other silicon mats for those duties.

Mario Batali 048953 Italian Kitchen Chianti Saute Pan 10-in. Review

After doing lots of research, I chose this pan because of the price and the style. The handle gets hot of course, but that’s because you can also put the skillet in the oven to broil! You will need to use a SILICONE HANDLE GRIP for the handle — Amazon has those, too! The BEST thing is that the LID from the 4 quart MB Risotto pot fits this saute pan, which I love. I can then use the saute pan (with Risotto lid) to brown and braise! Interchangable lids are awesome.

Copco Sierra 24-Ounce Cold Tumbler, Hot Pink Review

Someone I know raved about their Starbucks double-walled cold cup and I went to Amazon hoping to buy my own. They were out of stock at the Starbucks stores and being sold by others on Amazon for outrageous prices, so I investigated other options.

I wanted a 24 oz. cup so that narrowed my choices right off the bat. The Copco Sierra tumblers looked really cute and I liked the rubber grip feature, secure lid and “finned” straw. All the initial reviews were positive so I purchased 2 of these.

The bright colored versions of these tumblers are exactly the same as the brown version, but for some reason Amazon has them listed separately. Someone who reviewed the brown one said that they were double-insulated and did not “sweat” though other people said they did.

Here’s the real deal: they are NOT double-insulated, and they DO “sweat!” See my photos for verification. Even the rubber hand grip portion collects condensation, and also gets very cold- so overall I would say these are not very well insulated and you need a coaster if you don’t want a wet table.

The other thing that disappointed me is that the tumblers are not comfortable to drink out of directly (without the straw and lid), because of the threads for the screw-on lid. sometimes I like to use a cup like this without a straw, but I won’t be using this one that way. The screw-on feature does make the lid more secure, so it’s a trade-off.

Bottom line is, I like but don’t love these tumblers. Guess I’ll wait for the next shipment of the double-walled ones from Starbucks unless something better comes along!
